The leaders stressed that &#8221;urgent policy action is imperative to safeguard Europe&#8217;s strategic autonomy and reinforce its industrial&nbsp;capacity and technological leadership in the maritime domain&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very pleased to note that the European Commission has echoed our call last week in&nbsp;the mission letter of Commissioner-designate Tzitzikostas, by announcing the development of&nbsp;&#8217;a new industrial maritime strategy to enhance the competitiveness, sustainability and&nbsp;resilience of Europe\u2019s maritime manufacturing sector&#8217;, said&nbsp;<strong>Christophe Tytgat<\/strong>, SEA Europe\u2019s&nbsp;Secretary General. \u201cThis initiative will be part of the mandate for the Commissioner-designate&nbsp;for Sustainable Transport and Tourism and follows on from similar calls made by several EU&nbsp;Institutions over the past two years\u201d, Christophe Tytgat concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanying their letter, the business leaders included SEA Europe\u2019s Manifesto, outlining&nbsp;their \u201cstrategic plan to consolidate Europe\u2019s global leadership in complex shipbuilding and&nbsp;maritime equipment manufacturing by 2035, whilst \u2013 at the same time \u2013 regaining strategic or&nbsp;emerging shipbuilding and ship repair segments for the European Blue Economy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teknologiateollisuus.fi\/meriteollisuus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/11\/Press-Release_-Business-leaders-calling-for-a-European-Maritime-Industrial-Strategy_25-September-2024.pdf\">Original press release<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teknologiateollisuus.fi\/meriteollisuus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/11\/Letter-to-Ursula-Von-Der-Leyen-_Urgent-call-for-a-European-Maritime-Industrial-Strategy_19-July-2024.pdf\">Letter to Ursula Von Der Leyen<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 19th, 34 prominent business leaders from the European maritime technology industry&nbsp;(shipyards and maritime equipment manufacturers) submitted a letter to Ursula von der&nbsp;Leyen, urging the incoming European Commission to issue \u201ca new European Maritime&nbsp;Industrial Strategy to properly support the sector\u201d.
