Jessica Karhu<\/strong>, SKOL\u2019s incoming CEO, welcomed all the young professionals to the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dI am very happy you have relaunched this network. I hope to see how you are going to shape the future. You are the future designers\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workplace wellbeing and community as the foundation of the future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A key theme for the new network is community. Therefore, the keynote of Emilia Kujala focused on WE<\/strong>llbeing at the workplace. Kujala discussed workplace well-being, burnout, and the importance of structural and community-level solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dIn a postmodern individualised society, for example here in Finland, we mainly look at the answers for well-being and mental health problems related to work in an individual. It\u2019s not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kujala proposes that solutions should focus on improving work conditions and fostering genuine human connection, rather than relying solely on individual therapy or resilience training. There is a need for authentic connections and vulnerability at work, especially from those in leadership positions. Relatedness is one of the basic needs driving motivation: feeling connected and belonging to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young professionals\u2019 voices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A panel of young professionals discussed their career paths and workplace experiences. Panelists described their non-linear career paths, including transitions from nursing to consulting and from Uruguay to the intriguing transportation sector in Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All panelists emphasized the importance of supportive communities. They described mentorship programs, approachable managers, and the benefits of collaboration with senior collegues in building confidence and professional growth. The panelists agreed that being heard, included, and treated as professionals from the beginning of their employment contributed to their sense of value and belonging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They envisioned a future where young professionals bring fresh perspectives, and foster open and collaborative dialogue. They advocated for stronger professional networks and inclusion of young voices in shaping industry practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renewed SKOL Young Professionals Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vera Andersson<\/strong>, the project manager of SKOL Young Professional network, introduced the renewed SKOL Young Professionals Network and its goals for the coming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network connects students and young professionals under 35 across Finland\u2019s consulting and design engineering sector, fostering diversity, openness, and shared growth. It offers professional development, peer support, and opportunities for collaboration beyond disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membership is open to young professionals and students, with English as the working language. Upcoming activities include national and online events, company visits, and the creation of a working group to help steer the network\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WElness in community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kujala\u2019s key note message about authenticity and community resonated deeply throughout the event and offers a meaningful takeaway for all participants and readers alike:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be real at the workplace. Let\u2019s be real in our connections in leisure time. And let\u2019s be real together. That\u2019s WE<\/strong>llness.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
