Scaling Baltic Security: Leveraging Critical Technologies and Value Chains

Stronger cooperation can help the Nordic and Baltic regions scale their expertise. According to FISC CEO Peter Sund, regional cooperation should focus particularly on technologies and capabilities that are critical for both security and economic competitiveness.

FISC CEO Peter Sund participated in two high-level panel discussions at the 35th Economic Forum in Karpacz, Poland, held on 8–10 September 2026. The discussions focused on European security, resilience, competitiveness, and the role of critical technologies in strengthening regional capabilities.

Mr. Sund took part in a main-stage discussion as well as a panel focused on resilience and competitiveness in the Baltic Sea region.

In the Baltic Vision discussion, Sund emphasised that regional cooperation should focus particularly on technologies and capabilities that are critical for both security and economic competitiveness.

Mr. Sund also highlighted the importance of strategic investment in cybersecurity capabilities. Key areas include data centres, large-scale industrial technology investments, post-quantum cryptography, and layered cybersecurity solutions, including stronger cyber capabilities in the energy sector.

At the same time, turning regulatory requirements into practical cybersecurity capabilities is becoming increasingly important.

Connecting regional strengths across value chains

The discussion also addressed whether countries in the Baltic and Nordic regions could develop complementary areas of specialisation in security and resilience.

Mr. Sund stressed the importance of making better use of the strengths already present in individual countries and connecting them through regional markets and value chains. Stronger cooperation can help the region effectively scale its expertise.
