The European Maritime Technology Industry obtains support from EU Member States for a New European Maritime Industrial Strategy

SEA Europe, the association representing the European maritime technology industry, comprising shipyards and maritime equipment manufacturers, warmly welcomes the strong call of EU Member States to the European Commission “to develop a new strategy that supports the European maritime industry”.

This call is part of the Council conclusions on “A competitive European industry driving our green, digital and resilient industrial future” adopted on 24th May 2024.

Christophe Tytgat, Secretary General of SEA Europe, stated: “Member States have finally asserted the need for Europe to defend its maritime industrial interests. They have heard the call of SEA Europe (see below), spread across Europe by our national member associations. The message is clear: Member States want the European Commission to promptly craft a robust Maritime Industrial Strategy that will bolster the competitiveness of the European maritime supply chain, thereby enhancing Europe’s economic security and strategic resilience. It is time to act and build a bright maritime future for Europe!”.

SEA Europe welcomes the current strong political momentum in support of the European maritime technology industry. After the recognition by the Commission of the strategic dimension of the industry in the Mobility Transition Pathway, the visit of Commissioner Thierry Breton to a shipyard, and an event at the European Parliament with 120 participants, European policy-makers are now obviously taking action. SEA Europe offers its full collaboration for the upcoming development of a European Maritime Industrial Strategy.
