The Growing Need and Importance of Metals
The demand for and significance of metals have grown substantially worldwide, particularly due to the energy transition and geopolitical tensions. The ability to refine metals enhances resilience for Finland and Europe by ensuring raw material needs are met and supporting a functioning circular economy. To achieve this, we require strong European and domestic industrial policies that promote investments. Key elements include:

  • Clean and Affordable Electricity: Reliable access to clean and affordable electricity is a crucial factor for the competitiveness of our member companies. Energy and electricity markets must evolve to support the operating conditions of heavy industry and promote industrial renewal through consistent climate policies. (Read more)

Key aspects of our operating environment are shaped by the content and implementation of the following initiatives by the European Commission: Clean Industrial Deal, Steel and Metals Action Plan, European Climate Law and Post-2030 Climate Policy, Energy Union, European Competitiveness Fund, Implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act, EU Trade Policy, and the European Innovation Act.
