Scholarships and Grants for Metal Studies

In 2009, Finnish Steel and Metal producers (Metallinjalostajat ry) established a fund under the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation. The fund aims to promote scientific research and education in technology and business throughout the entire value chain of metal production at universities and research institutions. The founding companies of the fund are Outokumpu, Metso (formerly Metso Outotec), SSAB (formerly Rautaruukki), Boliden, and Ovako.

Objectives of the Fund

To fulfill its purpose, the fund:

  • Awards scholarships to high-achieving students for studies at foreign universities or for internships abroad.
  • Promotes international cooperation by granting scholarships for degrees and research work at foreign universities and research institutions.
  • Supports research by awarding grants to researchers, research groups, individual postgraduate students, or organizations in Finland.
  • Provides travel grants for participation in international conferences, internships abroad, and for inviting visiting researchers and lecturers.
  • Grants recognition awards for outstanding theses and significant achievements related to metal refining.
