Demand in the technology industry has remained weak

A cruise ship order and a few other high-value orders have stimulated order intakes in the technology industry, but overall, demand has continued to be weak. The number of employees declined in October–December more than at any other time during the prolonged economic downturn. At the same time, the number of employees laid off rose to its highest level since the COVID-19 crisis.

The latest order book and personnel survey by Technology Industries of Finland indicates that there is no reason to expect the long-awaited and hoped for turnaround in exports to materialise, even though order intakes grew substantially in October–December 2024.
