Strikes in the technology industry begin on Tuesday

On Tuesday the Industrial Union will launch strikes actions in the technology industry. Further talks as part of the collective bargaining dispute were held under the leadership of the National Conciliator on Sunday. Negotiations progressed, but no agreement has been reached yet.

The Industrial Union has announced six strike days in the technology industry, starting on the night between Monday and Tuesday. The strikes will last one day at each workplace from 00:00 am to 12:00 pm and will affect dozens of companies and hundreds of industrial sites across Finland on 3–4 and 9–12 December.

The collective agreements of the technology industries expired on Saturday 30 November. The parties have a preliminary agreement on textual issues, but views on wage increases are still far apart. The parties will next meet on 5 December.

“The strikes further worsen the already very worrying industrial situation, and technology companies have already been the target of heavy political strikes earlier this year. It would have been ideal for a responsible solution that supports both competitiveness and purchasing power, to have been reached under the leadership of the mediator,” says Jarkko Ruohoniemi, CEO of Technology Industries Employers of Finland.

Trade Union Pro has also issued strike warnings for 3–4 and 9–12 December. Mediation with Pro will continue on Monday 2 December.

Technology Industries Employers of Finland continue to negotiate the terms and conditions of employment of upper-level employees in technology industries, the collective agreement concerning the IT service sector, and the collective agreements for white-collar and upper-level employees in the design and consulting sector.
