New strike threats from senior salaried employees

The strike announced by YTN, representing senior salaried employees in the technology industry, did take place on Friday, March 14. On March 13, YTN issued additional strike warnings.

The strike involving senior salaried employees in the technology industry on March 14 affects nine locations. Mediation of the labor dispute will continue next on Tuesday, March 18. YTN previously threatened an additional strike day on Friday, March 21, and issued new strike warnings on Thursday, March 13.

YTN has threatened strikes on four consecutive Fridays from February 28 to March 21. YTN issued a new strike warning for selected companies in the technology industry for two additional Fridays, March 28 and April 4.

The strike involves several technology industry companies but also impacts senior salaried employees working in other companies’ services, performing tasks under the scope of the collective agreement for senior salaried employees within the industry, at sites affected by the labor dispute, such as subcontractors or temporary agency workers. A so-called flexibility ban is also in place within the sector, meaning senior salaried employees will not accrue flex hours or travel for work during their leisure time.

Negotiations on the collective agreement for the IT services sector will resume on Monday, March 17, and no industrial action notices have been issued.

However, on February 28, YTN announced a ban on work-related travel during free time and a prohibition on increasing flexible working time balances in the design and consulting sector. The ban starts on Monday, March 3, and will last until March 31, unless an agreement is reached in the labor dispute before then. No further negotiation dates have been scheduled.

The trade union Pro announced on February 27 a ban on additional and overtime work for employees covered by the collective agreement in the design and consulting sector. Negotiations will continue on Tuesday, March 18.

The overtime ban for salaried employees takes effect immediately and will remain in force until March 31, 2025, unless a settlement is reached before then. According to Pro’s announcement, work-related travel and training participation during the overtime ban will take place within regular working hours. The industrial action also includes a ban on accumulating flexible work hour balances and shift changes.

Industrial Union and Trade Union Pro Strikes Withdrawn After Agreement

The strikes announced by the Industrial Union were called off after the Technology Industry Employers of Finland and the Industrial Union reached an agreement on a new wage settlement on Saturday, February 22. Several sympathy strikes announced by various trade unions also ended.

Similarly, the strike warnings issued by Trade Union Pro for February 24–28 and March 3–7, as well as the overtime ban, were withdrawn following an agreement on a new wage settlement between the Technology Industry Employers of Finland and Pro on Sunday, February 23.
