Ever-thinner order books in spite of the pickup in order intake

According to preliminary estimates, the turnover of consulting engineering companies (industrial, social and construction expert services) in Finland increased by around one per cent in 2024 from 2023. In 2024, their turnover in Finland amounted to approximately seven and a half billion euros.

The consulting engineering companies that took part in Technology Industries of Finland’s survey of order books reported that the monetary value of new orders between October and December was 28 per cent higher than in the preceding quarter, but 4 per cent lower than in the corresponding period in 2023.

At the end of December, the value of order books was 2 per cent lower than at the end of September and 9 per cent lower than in December 2023. The value of order books in the sector has been steadily contracting for over two years.

On the basis of order trends at the end of last year, the turnover of consulting engineering companies is expected to remain largely unchanged during the first months of the year.

The number of personnel employed by consulting engineering companies in Finland decreased by 2.8 per cent in 2024 from the 2023 average. The industry employed 53,100 people on average in 2024, about 1,500 fewer than in the previous year. At the end of December, the number of personnel was 52,500.
