The data from the Business Tendency Barometer is most often presented as net balances. A net balance is calculated by subtracting the percentage of respondents reporting negative developments from the percentage reporting positive developments. For example, if 30% of respondents reported an increase in production, 50% reported no change, and 20% reported a decrease, the net balance would be 30 – 20, resulting in +10.
