COP30: Finnish technology industry highlights low-carbon and climate-smart solutions
Finnish technology industry companies will play an active role in the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30, which begins on 10 November 2025. Finland will host its own national pavilion at the event, providing a platform for Finnish climate and energy solutions. Among the companies represented at the Finland Pavilion are Outokumpu and Nokia. COP30 is the world’s largest climate event, offering Finnish companies an opportunity to showcase their low-carbon technologies and sustainable growth innovations to an international audience.
The annual UN Climate Conference brings together governments, businesses, cities, research institutions, and organizations from around the world to discuss and decide on actions to mitigate climate change and accelerate the green transition. The aim is to strengthen countries’ emission reduction commitments, promote the deployment of clean technologies, and ensure adequate financing for climate action.
This year’s conference, COP30, will take place in Belém, Brazil, on 10–21 November 2025. It will also serve as a key forum for advancing low-carbon industry and climate innovation.
The Finland Pavilion Showcases Low-Carbon Industrial Solutions
At the Finland Pavilion, Finnish organizations will present their expertise and innovative sustainable technology solutions that support global climate efforts and the transition toward carbon neutrality. The pavilion’s goal is to strengthen Finland’s and Finnish companies’ reputation as forerunners in climate solutions and to promote effective international climate action.
The Finland Pavilion is jointly organized by Technology Industries of Finland, Climate Leadership Coalition, the Confederation of Finnish Industries, the Central Chamber of Commerce, and Miltton. The pavilion’s main partners are Technology Industry member companies Outokumpu and Nokia. Altogether, the pavilion brings together 17 partners ranging from heavy industry to research and urban innovation.
The pavilion’s key themes include:
- A fossil-free industrial society
- Digitalisation
- Climate-smart solutions
- The future of the circular and bioeconomy
- Resilience under climate pressure
- These themes reflect Finland’s strengths as a green innovation hub and guide the development of the pavilion’s official programme.
Finland Pavilion puts the spotlight on low-carbon industry innovations
Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation has funded the COPLA project, which bridges research and industry and strengthens Finland’s position as a trusted and credible provider of sustainable solutions at UN climate conferences.
A multidisciplinary delegation of researchers from the University of Helsinki and Aalto University participates in the climate conferences, promoting evidence-based policymaking and collaboration between research, business, decision-makers, and civil society.
With the Foundation’s support, Finland and Finnish companies are able to position themselves as providers of research-based climate solutions, integrating academic expertise into the Finnish pavilion and the broader message of Finnish industry.
The low-carbon roadmap demonstrates industrial leadership
COP30 coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and highlights both the progress achieved in clean energy and industrial decarbonisation and the persistent global climate risks. Negotiations in Belém will focus on long-term commitments and an Action Agenda designed to accelerate tangible climate measures. However, only about one-third of countries have so far submitted their updated national climate plans (NDCs) to the UN.
Finland will present sector-specific low-carbon roadmaps, introduced by the Confederation of Finnish Industries in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The keynote speaker of the event will be minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto.

“The Technology Industry’s low-carbon roadmap shows that Finnish industry has a concrete and credible pathway toward carbon neutrality. Our sector has reduced the use of fossil fuels by 11 percent and the emissions from purchased energy by as much as 45 percent in just five years, while turnover has grown by 43 percent. These are tangible examples that emission reductions and economic growth can go hand in hand,” says Petteri Rautaporras, chief economist and head of the sustainable growth unit at Technology Industries of Finland.
Companies should participate in climate conferences
Finland has one of the world’s most ambitious carbon neutrality targets and is globally recognized as a leader in clean technology innovation. Rautaporras encourages companies to take part in international climate conferences.
“Finland serves as an excellent reference country. Participating companies have the opportunity to showcase Finnish technological solutions that significantly reduce CO₂ emissions globally. At the same time, they can contribute to shaping global climate policy and the future regulatory framework,” Rautaporras notes.
Technology Industries of Finland will closely follow COP30 discussions on the preparation of new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the formation of coalitions of the willing that accelerate industrial transition, and progress on climate adaptation financing and ecosystem protection.
The technology industry supports the goals of the climate negotiations and has actively influenced the EU’s ambitious climate objectives.
“The recent agreement by the EU’s environment and climate ministers represents the best possible compromise under current conditions. What matters now is ensuring that carbon credits genuinely lead to emission reductions, and that Europe relies on European solutions to reduce emissions within Europe. The continent’s economy and competitiveness will improve as we move away from fossil energy as quickly as possible,” Rautaporras emphasizes.
Technology Industries of Finland continues its efforts to ensure that Finnish low-carbon industry remains a global leader in climate solutions that support both economic growth and competitiveness.
