Miapetra Kumpula-Natri appointed Director responsible for EU and trade policy and exports at Technology Industries of Finland
Member of Parliament Miapetra Kumpula-Natri has been appointed Executive Director responsible for EU and trade policy and exports at Technology Industry. She will take up her position on 1 October.
Miapetra Kumpula-Natri will join the Management Team of Technology Industries of Finland (TIF) from the Finnish Parliament, where she serves as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Chair of the Grand Committee, member of the Commerce Committee and Chair of the Finnish Delegation to the Council of Europe. On Monday, 22 June, she submitted a request to Parliament to be released from her duties as Member of Parliament as of 30 September. This would enable her to take up the position on 1 October, provided that Parliament grants her release.
Kumpula-Natri served as a Member of Parliament from 2003 to 2014 and again from 2024 onwards, and as a Member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2024. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. In the European Parliament, Kumpula-Natri worked particularly on regulation related to digitalisation, artificial intelligence and the data economy, as well as on climate and energy policy.
CEO Taina Susiluoto points out that 90 per cent of the products and services manufactured by TIF’s member companies are exported. Companies’ growth is generated in international markets, and decisions affecting the operating environment of these markets are increasingly made at EU level.
“We need strong leadership-level responsibility for advocacy in EU and trade policy and exports, as well as technological policy expertise. Kumpula-Natri’s competence and experience are an exceptionally good fit for this moment and this need. At the same time, her strengths lie precisely in those policy areas that will determine the competitiveness of the Finnish technology industry in the coming years,” Susiluoto says.
According to Kumpula-Natri, the decision to move to TIF after a career in politics feels like a natural continuation of her long-standing work. Companies in the sector play a decisive role in strengthening Finland’s competitiveness and in the global green and digital transition.
“It is a privilege to move into a role where I can contribute in a very concrete way to Finland’s economic growth, exports and industrial renewal in themes that have always been highly important to me. Global politics is changing, with significant effects on trade relations. It is excellent that Technology Industries of Finland is investing in this area, and I am pleased to be involved in building the future of our largest export sector,” Kumpula-Natri says.
