Technology Industries of Finland’s AI investment

Technology Industries of Finland decided in November 2023 to invest ten million euros in accelerating the utilisation of AI in Finland. This investment aims to increase the uptake and development of AI at Finnish technology companies, bolster applied research and attract AI experts to Finland.

Breakdown of Technology Industries of Finland’s EUR 10 million investment in AI:

EUR 3.8 million (Originally allocated for recruiting international top experts in AI, redirected in April 2025)
- NEW: Seed funding for the preparatory phase of AI projects by member companies of Technology Industries of Finland (up to 50% of total project costs, max. €15,000 per project)
- NEW: Funding for hiring AI researchers into companies (up to 50% of the recruited researcher’s salary costs including statutory indirect costs, for a maximum duration of two years)
- NEW: Executive AI training (part of the AI 1000 programme by AI Finland)
- Additional funding: For AI development projects of the member companies of Technology Industries of Finland
- Additional funding: Grants for master’s theses
EUR 2.8 million as seed funding for the AI development projects of the member companies of Technology Industries of Finland
EUR 2.4 million in grants for master’s theses (thesis, dissertation, thesis for a university of applied sciences) associated with AI development projects of the member companies of Technology Industries of Finland
EUR 1 million for launching a business-driven AI network.
