Order books continue to shrink

The turnover of consulting engineering companies (industrial, social and construction expert services) in Finland increased by more than three per cent in 2023 from 2022. In 2023, their turnover in Finland amounted to over EUR 7 billion.

In January–July 2024, the turnover of consulting engineering companies in Finland remained on par with the corresponding period of last year.

The consulting engineering companies that took part in Technology Industries of Finland’s survey of order books reported that the monetary value of new orders between July and September was 21 per cent lower than in the preceding quarter, but one per cent higher than in the corresponding period in 2023.

At the end of September, the value of order books was three per cent lower than at the end of June and also three per cent lower than in September 2023. The value of order books in the sector has been steadily contracting for two years.

On the basis of order trends to date, the turnover of consulting engineering companies is expected to contract over the next six months.

At the end of September, consulting engineering companies in Finland employed 0.3 per cent fewer people than at the end of June. The industry employed approximately 53,100 people in September.
