Metals Industry in Finland

Turnover in the industry down

The turnover of metals industry companies (steel products, non-ferrous metals, castings and metallic minerals) in Finland decreased by about five per cent in 2025 from 2024. Their turnover in Finland amounted to approximately EUR 13 billion in 2025.

The combined production volume of the industry (turnover deflated by the change in producer prices) was at the same level in January–May 2026 as in the corresponding period of last year.

The number of personnel employed by metals industry companies in Finland at the end of June was 0.6 per cent lower than at the end of March. The industry had approximately 16,600 employees in March.

Compared to the corresponding period of last year, global steel production declined by 0.7 per cent during the January–June period of this year. Examined by region, production volumes have declined in the EU (-0.3%), Asia (-0.9%) and, as could be expected, the Middle East (-7.3%). Production has increased, for example, in North America (5.7%) and Africa (10.0%).

China, India, the United States and Japan were the largest steel producers in January–June. China accounted for approximately 54 per cent of global steel production in the first part of the year.
